project details:
Client: DC Housing Authority
Location: Ward 8
Type: Residential
Building on prior HOPE VI planning work for the DC Housing Authority, JAIR LYNCH served as
Master Planner for the 2005 HOPE VI application to redevelop the former Sheridan Terrace
housing complex. JAIR LYNCH managed the design work of Sorg & Associates architects,
while completing economic analysis of the area surrounding this former public housing
site across from the Anacostia Metro Station. JAIR LYNCH analysis of proposed, ongoing
and completed public and private development in the area was the basis for DC Housing
Authority communications with other agencies to leverage HOPE VI funding. It also helped
influence site design consideration in connection with extensive community input at design
workshops. The proposed development capitalizes on its proximity to public transportation
by including high density housing (mid-rise buildings and multi-unit townhomes) for a mix of
income levels. Sheridan Terrace was awarded HOPE VI funding in early 2008.
