project details:
Client: Recreation Wish List Committee
Location: 701 Mississippi Ave SE
Type: Recreational
Target Area: South Washington
Cost: $5.1 million
Size: 45,000 SF
JAIR LYNCH Development Partners managed this complex public/private development, which was the first new recreation center to be built in the District of Columbia in more than twenty years and doubled the city's capacity for indoor tennis. JAIR LYNCH worked on behalf of the Recreation Wish List Committee to finance the project, which is located on National Park Service land and required a long-term ground lease, plus multiple levels of public finance. When it was completed, the Southeast Tennis & Learning Center achieved its goal of bringing athletics and academics into a single facility for under-served children in southeast Washington, D.C. The tournament-level facility houses four indoor and six outdoor tennis courts as well as a state-of-the-art computer learning center and community space.
What's nearby?
JAIR LYNCH has had an ongoing presence in the Congress Heights, neighborhood located less than 10 minutes from downtown Washington. Places to work like the Unified Communications Center and places to play like the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center are examples of JAIR LYNCH's commitment to the neighborhood, not to mention Southeast Elementary Academy and Friendship Technology Preparatory Public Charter School, which JAIR LYNCH is currently developing on behalf of Friendship. Moreover, several JAIR LYNCH residential projects are within walking distance of the project site, which means residents of Royal Courts and Savannah Heights will have another quality school to consider for their children.
