On April 4, 2008 Friendship Public Charter Schools will dedicate Southeast Academy Elementary School. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior, Friendship will hold a dedication of the school and commemorate the slain leader’s legacy. The program includes Rev. Dr. Calvin Butts from Abyssinian Baptist Church in New York, and presentations and performances from the students from each of the five Friendship campuses.
The school, located off of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue in SE on Milwaukee Place, was originally a 22,000 SF facility that had a Safeway grocery store. JAIR LYNCH, serving as development manager, managed the original renovation for the 2005-2006 school year and managed the development of a 40,000 SF addition, successfully enlarging the building’s footprint to accommodate approximately 550 students in grades K-6. Construction began in December of 2006 and was delivered in August 2007 for the start of the school year, for final completion in November of 2007.
The completion of the facility marks JAIR LYNCH's third such project for Friendship and represents an important addition to the Congress Heights neighborhood. More than 90% of the children enrolled in the school live in Wards 7 and 8, with the vast majority living in the surrounding neighborhood.
